Frequently Asked Questions
About the Admissions Process
Here are the questions we hear most often about the admissions process for our Montessori preschool and elementary programs in Alexandria.
-
Can I drop by at any time for a school tour?
It can be difficult for us to accommodate spontaneous tours. We are happy to answer general questions on the phone or by email. You may also schedule or request a tour online for our Aquinas Montessori campus in Mount Vernon or our Old Town Montessori campus on Columbus Street in Alexandria, VA.
-
Who should attend the school tour?
Both parents (if applicable & possible). The initial tour is best for adults only. Your child will have an opportunity to visit the classroom and the teacher at a later date.
If you wish to bring your child, you are welcome to do so keeping in mind that the conversation will mainly be of interest to adults.
-
Is there a waiting pool?
Yes, normally, depending on the program. We maintain waiting pools for our Primary Montessori program (ages 2.5–6) and Elementary Montessori program (ages 6–12) when spaces are limited.
-
How far in advance may I submit an application?
We do operate using rolling admissions. We begin offering spaces for the next school year in February. Families looking for a Montessori school in Alexandria are encouraged to apply early to secure a space at either Aquinas Montessori in Mount Vernon or Old Town Montessori in Old Town Alexandria.
-
May I request a specific classroom/teacher?
We discourage parents from requesting a specific teacher or classroom. It is important for parents to commit to the Montessori program in Alexandria as a whole, more than to working with a particular teacher.
-
What are the factors that determine my child’s placement?
Depending on the openings that are available, our goal is to balance the classrooms by age and gender of the children. This applies to both our Aquinas Montessori elementary classrooms in Mount Vernon and our Old Town Montessori primary classrooms in Alexandria.
-
Is there a sibling discount?
Yes, there is a 5% tuition discount for the second (and third, etc.) child.
